What is Petroleum?
Petroleum is produced from Crude Oil and that is found underground. It is made up mostly of Hydrogen and Carbon. It can also be found above ground in oil seeps or tar pits. Crude oil is used to fuel cars, planes, helicopters and other forms of transport. It is also used for making tar for roads, plastics for bottles, toys, food wrap and computers. The problem with petroleum is that it contains many different hydrocarbons all mixed together. To be used the different hydrocarbons have to be seperated. To be seperated the oil is refined.
